I have a 1993 C1500 Silverado project truck. I'm looking at putting a tachometer style cluster in and from the research I've done it should be plug and play by using a 1992 through 1994 cluster except for the fact my truck a 4.3 V6 and so far all the clusters I've run across are V8 ones or the seller isn't sure what the doner vehicle was. So my first question is does anyone know what the part number/ID number on the back of a V6 tach cluster is? Secondly is there a way to modify a V8 cluster tach to read correctly? Thanks!

Well after much more searching I did find a verified V6 tach cluster on Ebay. Should be here early next week.

Nice truck!

I'm not sure if this applies to V6's, but starting in '94 V8 clusters changed the oil pressure reading to "0, 40, 80" from "0, 30, 60". So you might want to double check your cluster vs the donor cluster. And also the lens, since the holes for the trip odometer and what not between base vs tach won't line up. So if you were planning on using your original lens, think again. (I learned that the hard way)

Thanks! I ended up getting a V6 cluster from a 92 stick shift truck and installed it yesterday. I got a crash course in seeing how these are put together as I swapped in my odometer and trip odometer as well as my gear shift indicator. Yes I saw right away the lenses don't interchange and this one is pretty scratched but LMC sells tach cluster lenses so I have one ordered. Unfortunately the needles are quite faded but I'm now wondering if the circuit board the gauge face snaps into contains the proper resistor for it being a V6 as the gauge face itself only contains the stepper motors. If that's the case I'll probably look for a nicer face that is a V8 cluster and just swap faces/needle/motors and then I'll also have the proper base if I ever V8 swap it down the road.

I couldn't tell ya. You could also send the cluster to an outfit in Michigan known as SpecMo, they rebuild clusters. I had them rebuild the one in our old '88 C3500. They put fresh orange needles on it so maybe they could sell some to you. If yours will be a garage queen, cool. But if it'll hang around out in the sun, get a towel to drape over the dash/cluster or something to protect them from fade. Happens pretty fast, why I just prefer the faded look on our dailies. My Fireturd and Lincoln have minty orange needles and yep, I drape a towel over the clusters wherever I go & park.

Oh it's no garage queen, it'll get well used as a truck, but I enjoy fixing things. Plus with this having a topper on it I can use it as a car, letting me park my 05 Taurus until I can get the transmission rebuilt. My dad bought this truck back in 06 from a friend of his so I have quite a bit of history on it which is nice.

For anyone interested I upgraded the gauge cluster face to a very nice one out of a V8 truck using the cluster base that was from a very high mile truck but was one of the few V6 clusters I could find butwas very faded. The base contains the circuit board that has the proper resistor so the tachometer reads correctly for which engine you have and the gauge face is interchangeable. And on the plus side I now have a V8 base should I ever V8 swap this truck. The parts truck also has power windows and locks. I took the dash out and got the main harness for them and will go back next week to get the doors and hopefully I can convert my manual door truck to power doors. Last thing I grabbed was a grill even though the parts truck is a GMC but to be honest I always liked the large opening GMC style grill better lol! I do have an idea of taking my chrome Chevy grill and finish taking the chrome off and painting those sections body color. I just don't think with the color my truck is I would like the whole grill body color so I'll start out by just doing the chrome parts first.

Looks good. I'd like to convert our trucks to power doors & locks but am so slow I'd need to buy a donor vehicle so I can do things at my own pace. I've gotten use to the manual stuff anyway. I've had bad experiences with power window vehicles that sit outside during the winter anyway- damn ice always messes them up. Never had that problem with cranker windows.

Honestly I miss the power locks more than the windows lol! Unfortunately the parts truck was maroon interior so unless I come up with grey power door panels by the time I do this project I'll reuse my manual panels and come up with something to plug the window crank hole. I got the power doors home and stripped the panels, switches and mirrors off of them today. I also took pictures and measurements because my cab doesn't have the 2.5" holes in the A pillar for the wiring harness to pass through but luckily the doors do.

Oh, well that's a quick way of getting that stuff out of the yard and home- buy the damn doors rather than take all the guts out haha. Guess ya still gotta rip out the dash to get the harness but hey, I might just do this after all.
