So I watch a video by Moroso and the guy says if you have this type wire plugs in the distributer its an HEI, I guess you can replace a "normal" GM distributor cap with one that has these style ends and I mis understood that cause mine sure don't look like any HEI distributor I have seen. Except I did find an article about having and HEI set up with external Coil so it has me baffled. Mine has a coil wire out of the center going to a squatty looking coil in front of it.

Yes, the electronically controlled distributors (87 - 95) are HEI too but they're called "small cap" instead of the coil on top "big cap" HEIs from pre-87.

Edit - that white wire coming off the coil is for your tach in your instrument panel.

The cap in the link you gave has the push down and twist type retainer, yours should have two screws holding the cap on.

Every distributor-type GM electronic ignition system since '75 has been a version of HEI.

There's big-cap (coil-in-cap), there's the older inline-4 and inline-6 with a big cap and separate coil, there's versions with several different levels of computer control, (5 and 7 pin modules) and there's the TBI-style small-cap, external-coil 8-pin module style like you have.

They're ALL "HEI".
