I am looking into doing a SAS 4X4 conversion on a 1993 Chevy 1500 2WD that I’m looking at, I’d be using off-road unlimited parts and I haven’t decided between the 10 bolt or the Dana 44 yet or transfer case (recommendations welcome) my main question right now is would there be any transmission problems when using the 4 low, I’ve read that on newer trucks when you do a 4X4 conversion that it can put the transmission into limp mode when it’s in 4 low because it thinks it’s slipping. Would I run into this problem on a 1993, if I do should I just convert it to manual while I’m at it. I found a 4 speed and np205 transfer case for a good deal would it be worth going that route?

Id look into offroaddedign.com over ORU, they are overpriced and no adjustability. cheaper too. As for the axle, the are pretty much the same, ones pass drop other is driver drop. strength is pretty much the same. A 10 bolt is pass drop only, so will need a pass drop t-case from a 90-91 with the VSS. Or if you want the 205 send it to ORD so they can mod the tailhousing for VSS. Or get a HP44 from a Ford, 73-77 1/2, need to cut off wedges and weld perches on. Or 78/79 super cab, will be 1/2 ton, but will have 5 lug. Or a 78/79 3/4, pretty much the same as the super cab but 8 lug and usually 4.10s. The Ford axles usually have the correct flat top pass side knuckle you will need for crossover steering. The 10 bolt NEVER came with one, so will have to source one. ORD is an awesome source for all this stuff. Do you homework...

PCM needs a 4lo signal on the newer stuff, not sure on a 93 but likely the same. You'll be pulling your VSS from the tcase and not the trans anymore. On a newer truck, this would either require a 4wd PCM or a flash from one.
