Guess what? Another pinion seal! This is my 3rd pinion seal in just a few weeks. Once I saw the YouTube video showing the 3 dot method I jumped on all my annoying ass leaks.

Seeing how the 1500 had received axle seals when I swapped it in, I went ahead and changed the gear oil too. I was shocked at what I found.

Goddamn that's nasty! This was all clean around 70k ago when it was junkyard fresh. WTFO? The dually is probably way nastier.

Cleans up easy enough. The spider gears and cross shaft were showing some wear, gonna have to keep my eye on that as the miles tick by. The govbomb still works fine, if it's serviceable at this point I could have it tight and right pretty easily.

Decided to shampoo the interior on this again and I was shocked at how nasty it really was as I've done it a couple times before.

This is a junkyard seat I tried to clean before and had crap results.

I've been using Tide laundry detergent and it's 1000x better than the **** you buy for the carpet. I pulled many grease stains out that I thought were permanent. Carpet looks better than it ever has. Next up is a CV boot.

Do you mix the Tide in any sort of stain removal machine or tool, or just a spray bottle?

Decided to reaffirm my hatred for CV joints/boots today. Mission accomplished. Local offerings sucked for boots so I nabbed this Moog 5400B online as it was the harder than crap rubber that dryrots in a year material. My first stuck point was here.

Every other joint I've taken apart has required a hammer and a vise. I was scratching my ass wondering how I was gonna spread that clip and beat the thing off (so to speak) and finally I just pulled the thing and the CV pretty much fell off. Next step was how to get the damned thing apart. Even north of 270k the thing was still tight as hell. I found an old thread from hquick where he said he used a brass drift to get the cage far enough to get the balls out so I did that and it worked great.

Not too shabby for 270k if I do say so myself. No pics of reassembly but I did pressure wash the entire front suspension after this to rid it of the mess caused by all the grease that got slung. What a f'n mess that was. Tomorrow is plugs and I'll shotgun a crank sensor and get some AC Delco oil cooler lines rolling in. Monday I have a 1300+ mile road trip to MI. I'm bringing the laptop, this will be the first time since the blower this thing has gone down there in altitude. If the dually last year is any indication of what awaits, this thing should get pretty rowdy.

I've got to do this to one of my K1500's also. The last time was 20+ years ago and I can hardly remember how.....

I've got the Moog 9461 Neoprene. Had a choice between thermoplastic or neoprene, have used both, and it does seem the thermoplastic lasts longer as long as it doesn't slip off as it begins to wear.

I even bought one of those heavy duty crimpers--that's one part of the agony I do remember from 20+ years ago......

This one is the thermoplastic, the rubber boots f'n suck.

The rubber boots look really nice at first, but then start leaking. The OEM was a harder material.... I guess thermoplastic? I still have one OEM shaft, on the truck, and one on the parts shelf. I'd like to reboot them, but have not found the time to figure it out.... and I'm not sure how I'll deal with all the grease. I may have to resort to gas. I haven't used gas to clean parts in years.

Thanks for posting a few pictures of your rebooting project.

Yeah, I've been thinking I should have bought the thermoplastic boots but this winter I could not find any name brand thermoplastics. But the neoprene boots have been sitting in the shop for months so I'm going to install them. The CV axles are rebuilt AC Delcos and they came with the neoprene boots which are cracking.......

Are the OEM CV shafts available these days?
