Does anybody here know of a scanner tool that will do an ABS system brake bleed, automatic or manual, for GMT 400 trucks, other than the GM Tech II scanners? I have already dipped my toe in the China/knock-off GM Tech II pool and was lucky to get out alive, and with all my money (thanks to PayPal). Just FYI it seems that every year toward the end of January many of the internet business sites in China just shut down for as long as 2 weeks for the New Years Holiday, while their web sites still state they will process an order in 2 days. Not really helpful.

Anyway, on my 2000 Z-71 Tahoe I am replacing/upgrading to a 2006 Master Cylinder, so I'll need to do a real good ABS bleed after hooking it up.

I can say with a fair degree of certainty that the Launch Tech Creader Professional Elite (office in Ontario, CA) will NOT do the ABS brake bleed for a Tahoe prior to 2007. The Autel MaxiCheck Pro will also not do a Tahoe prior to 2007. (Though I found a YouTube vid of a guying doing an ABS bleed on a 2006 GMC Sierra 1500, but we all know that's NOT a GMT400.)

I also found a way to bleed the ABS system manually.

This is pretty cool but might not do it as well as a scanner.

I may just have to bite the pricey Vetronix Tech II bullet.

There are some $300ish units on Amazon that claim to do it. Just read all the answered questions and reviews to see if anybody successfully used them on one of our trucks.

I just checked on my snap on Solus Pro and Modis and they both have the automated bleed option for a 2000 Tahoe. My mt2500 w/ version 6 probably has it, but I cant tell for certain without the vehicle to connect to. If you keep an eye on auctions, you can get a Solus Pro with a decent software version for around $400. You may have to rebuild the battery for $80, or DIY for $40. It's a great tool.

I did just had this done to my truck with a snap on. After reading the forums about changing this that and other thing someone mentioned to do an abs brake bleed. My mechanic wasn't sure if the tool had that option for my 98. I was able to get my truck over to the shop today and he did the abs brake bleed. He said his scan tool cost about 4k used. I wish i can find one for a reasonable price. Brakes work and feel better.

Ya by January all the manufacturing closes down for the Chinese New Year an back logs orders big time. So dont order during the time frame waited over a month for an item to ship and when it get here it was already bad. I just wanted a replacement but the seller just gave me the money back and keep the bad item cause of the New Year.

I went though this same thing and I just sucked it up and bought a Tech 2 clone from ebay since I need to do it at some point - I don't trust the no-name 3rd party scanners that say they can do it since it's more miss than hit. I was actually surprised with how good the quality is of the T2 clone...

I haven't tried ABS bleed on it yet but I will be. It is actually nice to have a factory level scan tool for your truck. it's already come in handy for a few other things and a few other vehicles that are compatible with it. If you plan on working on your truck and keeping it for awhile it's money well spent IMO.

Snap-On Solus Pro with 8.2 software, and my MTG2500 with 6.2 software, will not auto-bleed ABS on my '97. They both will auto-bleed ABS on my '03 Trailblazer, though.

Snap-On Solus Pro with 14.2 software WILL auto-bleed ABS on my '97. I have heard--but not verified--that the auto-bleed for my '97 was added sometime in 2010.

This is BAT-SHIIT CRAZY unless you're also replacing the front calipers with non-low-drag units.

Low-drag calipers as used on JB/JD/JN 3, 5 and 6 option code brake systems need a 3-chamber "Quick Take-Up" master cylinder to work properly. Your truck is "probably" JB6, but you could confirm by looking at the SPID sticker in the glovebox. The '06 is an old-fashioned 2-chamber.

I also found a way to bleed the ABS system manually.

Good luck with that. Didn't work for me on my '97 EBC310.
