I'd like to do the same to my dually, but it's super low as a priority. The harness should all be in yellow and I imagine it's a huge asspain of a job. You also can't buy the bags from the junkyard like cats. I imagine you'd need the interior harness and computer at a minimum and the dash she'll would have to come out to change said harness and to harvest the donor.

Why? I'd honestly just leave it alone. But, if you want to switch to the 97-98 dash, just find one with the cubby hole like the 3/4 tons and 1 tons did.

If I could, I'd rip out the airbags in my 97.

Huge liability issue. Not something you want to mod or engineer yourself.
Anyone that rides with you or owns the truck after you will have a false sense of security which means a lawsuit after an accident.
A lawyer will be all over you if they find out you changed something.
You will also have a false sense of security thinking the system will work to protect your occupant.
