Tall Skinny’s

Didn’t really see a category that this topic fit, so I chose this and hoped for the best...

I’ve got a ‘99(88-98 body style), CCLB, K3500 pickup.

I’m due for tires and have been all over the place looking at taller tires. Truck is totally stock in height. Currently running 245/65or75/16 tires.

I want to hear and see if anyone is running tall skinny tires and how their truck is doing. I’ve been thinking like 285 or 32/33. I drive this truck daily, see a lot of road but also a lot of rough terrain too. I pull a trailer often and can’t sacrifice any comfort there.

Curious to see folks trucks and how they look, but mainly want to know how they do in there daily chore.

I run a 246/64/16 now, I meant I’d like 245-255/85 or bigger/16

I had a 97 2500hd (basically a1ton) and ran 285/75/16s for a bit then had 33x12.5x15 for a bit. Yes 15” rims on an 8 lug. I turned the bars up some but not enough to affect ride. Had a CCSB 2500 that had H2 rims, and 285/75s, again bars tuned some, but ever so slightly rubbed the filler piece by front bumper/fender. But, no pics. The 97 might be around the web somewhere but thanks to photo bucket prolly gone...

Is yours a dullie?

I've got a '00 CCLB SRW 5.7/4.10 with LT 265/75/R16. A bit taller and wider than stock. I like them. Any bigger and I would regear, but the 265s put the bumper high enough for loading stuff back there with the 14 bolt rear end. I can't understand how the guys with super tall lifted trucks load stuff in their beds.

Isn't the rear rake on DRW greater than SRW?

I ran 235/85r16's on my c2500. It was a 6 lug truck and I ran 4" lift spindles to clear. But my c3500 came with 235/85r16s on the front and they cleared no problem. Only reason I removed them was because the back tires were the stock 225's and the difference bugged me.

A 235/85r16 is about a 31.75" tall tire, depending on brand and style. A 255/85r16 is a hair over 33". And they are true pizza cutters, tall and skinny.

I put a set of the skinnier 235/85R16 on my 1500 rcsb and they are great in the winter. they do have a bit different handling. more side wall flex around corners for sure.

I looked into a set of Cooper Discoverer A/T 3 LT’s in a 235/85. Good looking tire and really good price. Might be the route I’ll be going.

Not a truck but a Tahoe, but I had Goodyear Wrangler Authority's 235/85/16 on stock wheels. Looked pretty cool, filled wheelwell nice, I'm not really into the stuffed look. But road silky smooth, quiet, and was absolutely awesome in the snow. I live on a steep hill, with no grenade lock, I went up it in 2wd. It did have couple hundred pounds in it, but still impressive. On road hitting slush, didn't get pushed around or slide. That was with 35-ish pounds of air. I bumped it up to 50 or 55, trying for lil better mileage. It road rougher, was louder, but did handle lil better, no squirming around. Buddy bought Tahoe, put tires on his truck, smoked em out of the driveway.....

I've got a 97 Suburban 4x4 and just put 235/85r16 Toyo M55s on my stock height suburban. Had my shop bring 255/85r16 Toyos in and we all agreed those were not gonna fit. So I got 235/85s instead.
