Ok, so it looks like the "HD" was in the CK2500/3500 trucks, 2500/3500 G-Vans and 2500 SUVs and will still be available? The 4 bolt main is the most notable difference vs the 1500 models. Not sure if there are other differences. Both are "R" on the VIN.
The HD will work fine in a 1500. From the factory they got different exhaust valve seats and the 4 bolt mains.
If I recall on the JEGS website, they say the HD will not work with the 1500 models? Why would that be? Seems like externally they are identically. Even the gmperformancemotor.com website says "3/4 and 1-Ton only." Why?
It has to do with the warranty. My 1/2 ton van had a 4-bolt main engine with a single roller timing chain and 906 heads with the "bad" exhaust seat as it was born. Its replacement was a 2-bolt. Did not find out it was an OE 4-bolt from the factory until I pulled the pan. I went ahead and just ran with it since it was the only way to get the GM warranty. If it weren't for the warranty the 4-bolt main engine is a better engine especially since it has the stronger roller chain.Ok, so it looks like the "HD" was in the CK2500/3500 trucks, 2500/3500 G-Vans and 2500 SUVs and will still be available?
