Dad’s old 93 been sitting for 8 years.

I’m new to the forum and have enjoyed all the information I’m finding on here. I have been reading files and using the search engine trying to learn everything I can on my 93 GMC SLE 4.3-5.7 swapped 4L60-E SCSWB truck.

My dad bought the truck new in December of ‘92, his first brand new truck. I was almost 10 years old, and there the day he picked it up. I remember to this day saying, when I turn 16 I want this truck!

In January of ‘99 I turned 16. I was now telling him that he needed to find a new truck because I needed mine. He had found a couple trucks but not exactly what he was wanting, so I told him not to be in a hurry and get what he wants, he was letting me drive his truck on almost a daily basis anyways. The greatest dad ever!

Then in April of ‘99 he died in a tragic fishin accident and I was left his truck. Since that day I’ve vowed that as long as I’m alive that truck would be in my possession, I don’t care if it sits in a field and rots, I’m not selling it.

The old truck has been sitting in a field now for 8 years. I had done a 4.3-5.7 swap at 165K, now has 225K, 3 rebuilds on the tranny that came with the truck then a new tranny that was supposed to be behind a 5.7.

Knowing that both the engine and tranny are both relatively low miles what should I look for before starting?

I know to clean gas tank add marvel mystery oil with new gas undo injector lines before injectors and pump them clean change all fluids/filters-air/coolant/oil/transmission/rearend.

Any other information is greatly appreciated!

I bet that thing has some jungle rot from sitting in a field. Check fuel/brake lines and brake components to see they're not seized. That, fluids, tires, belt would be a short list. How's the interior?

I’m from Oklahoma so the rot on her isn’t bad at all, yes some minor frame rust and bed floor rust. As far as where it’s been sitting, it’s a country setting and there is a possibly of mice but not really the jungle sitting. I know brakes and front end before driving but just wanting to see if she’ll purr.

Should I put some transmission fluid through the spark plug holes before I attempt to start it?

I'd be inclined to do a new fuel pump, too. Drop the tank. Lift/tilt the box. Either/Or.
The ones in these trucks have a shady rep to begin with.
