She is a 727 block. Hopefully a good deal will pop up on retro lifters. There are some that are super inexpensive. They get good reviews on amazon. I really don't trust them though. I heard the cheap ones make more noise than good ones.

Bearing tolerances looking good. Ready to begin assembly. I don’t put a lot of engines together. I find it exciting to put something together out of a bunch of parts.

I found a man on craigslist selling some new gaterman roller lifters. He was sympathetic to my meager budget. I hope they work out good. I also purchased a Howards cam HRS-110235-12 cam. I kept the 112 lobe separation to keep fuel injection happy and the lift is almost .500 in/ex. I bought a weind carb intake. Thought process is to get it broken in on the carb and then if the engine proves itself to be OK- add the experimental fuel injection. Do you guys think that would be wise or am I an idiot?

Sorry schurkey, I meant to reply earlier. I dislike the design of the factory dog bone setup. It may be fine, however I prefer the retro lifters. The downside is that they have more mass.

Not knocking you but I don't understand why. The factory dog bone setup was absolutely reliable for me on a ~7,000 rpm 302. L99 4.3 Caprice crank and rods in a Vortec 350 block.

It may be perfectly fine. Just by looking at them, I dont like how the dogbones are held with the spring tension of the retainer. I have no experience using them at all. The other thing is my block is already back from the machinist and I final washed it. I didn't want to start introducing new metal shavings making it work.
