I need a new driver door for my Yukon, and found one off of a Silverado. I assume they will, but is it a direct fit?

Yes, it should fit. The front two doors interchange between any GMT400 (to the best of my knowledge anyway).

There is a difference in early, maybe thru 94 doors on the inside. The PO of my 89 truck put on 98 doors and had to weld in the recess where the interior pull handle goes.

All GMT400 front door's will interchange. 88-89 are slightly different, they don't have bolt in plastic vent's in the door jam, they are metal louvers made into the door.

I do recall some people mentioning small differences in the doors between year ranges, however I would think a '95 and a '99 should be pretty much identical. The interiors were updated in '95 so both of those doors should be set up for the same stuff.

This reminds me of a question I've wondered about for a while...

There used to be books that told you what parts would fit other vehicles, and what those vehicles were. Is that kind of info still available anywhere?
