I'm not sure I'm following you guys on the hanging ebrake.... Some one light throttle would overcome that, if it is even there...

OP, what's the history on this vehicle on the snow? Has it worked better in the past?

We don't really get any snow here, but back in '09-'10 we had a good winter. I recall trying to exit a shopping center on black ice and back wheels on my '99 Silverado 2wd G80 were just spinning. I was able to get home and 3-4 bags of sand in the bed did the trick for me...

Otherwise OP might want to deflate tire pressure...

I think most people here would know if they have a brake dragging or something hanging up.

I used to have the driver's side lock up the last few feet every time I stopped in the winter in snow. I could see the tire track when parking was not a roll, but a slide.

It's not balanced side to side and is just adding to any traction imbalance from the snow.

Great discussion! Thanks all for the replies. As others have stated, I would have assumed this vehicle should do fine in the snow. It's done okay in years past, but I've never been overly impressed. I have commuted regularly every winter in Illinois since I turned 16 (way back in the 1900's), and I drove a service vehicle most of my career in all hours & weather conditions, so I am not inexperienced in that regard.

G80... yes, so I have limited slip differential. Tires are Cooper Discoverer H/T 120/116R, which were on the Burb when I bought it. They were fairly new then, and I've only put about 20k miles on them with regular rotations. It looks like the current comparable model is the Discoverer HT3, which is user-rated as "Fair" in snow & ice conditions on Tire Rack. I keep non-towing inflation at the standard 35 front / 50 rear recommended on the door sticker, but I'll gladly drop a few psi if that could help.

If I run the e-brake on/off a few times, will that loosen up a stuck cable? Or is that something a shop needs to check out?

I wouldn't touch the brake unless you use it regularly....its likely to stick on if it hasn't been used.

It gets down to the 30s at night and the 60s during the day. Sunday's supposed to get up to 69 - we're going to shoot some Sporting Clays and stop off at the Wild Horse Bar and Grill (and bait shop) for beers and hamburgers after.
