I've got ANOTHER project goin. I've got no leaks and i'm only getting about 25 psi when I start my '92 k1500 4x4 extended cab, and when it warms up it tanks to around 4 psi at idle, and wont go above 22 when driving. So i'm putting in a new oil pump (Melling M-55) and gonna check the bearings and all that good stuff if I could ever get the oil pan down. How hard is it to get the front differential cover off, and does anyone happen to have any diagrams or schematics for it? I've looked all over YouTube and the Haynes Manual and haven't come up with anything so far. I've already got the dust cover and starter down and most of the oil pan bolts, so i'm to the point to where that cover's gotta come off or jack up the motor by the harmonic balancer (which I don't really want to do). I need to change the differential fluid anyway, and put on a camber/caster kit, so I figured I might as well go that route. Thanks for any advice in advance

If i remember right there are only like 3-4 bolts that hold the front diff in place. You should just have to take them out and maybe the drive line and it will drop down enough to take your pan out. I don't think you will have to do anything with the axle shafts but I could be wrong. Its been a while since Ive had to do a pan gasket.

I recently changed the gasket without getting the pan down, but unfortunately there's no way around it for an oil pump, lol. I was quoted around $1200 just for an oil change and to replace the gasket originally, and there's no way in hell i'm ever gonna pay anywhere even close to that. Especially when its only about an hour job with a lift and air tools. I just don't wanna start taking bolts out and get drenched in gear oil or have something shift that I can't get back in place

There is no way in hell that you can do this job 1 one hour. You will not get drenched in gear oil as the diff does not have to be opened up. You did not change the gasket with out dropping the pan and pulling the dipstick tube. $ 1200.00 dollars does sound on the high side but, unless you can provide video evidence of your mechanical expertise in real time I suggest that stop suggesting that this is a quick job.

I 100% absolutely did change the oil pan gasket without dropping the pan, sir. Don't tell me what the f*ck I didn't do. Because that gasket sure as hell didn't put itself on, and the pan has NEVER been below the differential. I didn't say it was easy but it sure as hell got put on. Get the f*ck off my post unless you have something constructive to add to the conversation. I've rebuilt this entire f*ck*ng truck from the ground up with 0 help aside from a few people on here's advice on a couple topics.

I've broken this truck down so many times, if you give me air tools and a lift, I guarantee I can easily have it done in less than 2 hours

I guess this guy was lying about putting his gasket on without dropping the pan, too. Just because you don't have the skills to do it, dont hate on the ones that do

Well, I wish this would have been just an oil pump replacement. But of course, it's always got to be drastically more difficult

Sucks you found piston skirts in the motor. Any other damage you see?

Also no need to curse. I understand the other guy made ya mad, but the forums we stay civilized. Facebook is where you put on the UFC gloves.
