Ive started to crank the front of my 94 burb and noticed my stock shocks need to be replaced. Ive been looking at the bilstiens but havent been able to find any good info on which ones fit our trucks. Dont have to be bilstiens though. Looking for some real world info from some of you guys that have cranked their trucks.

If you're cranked, stock length Bilsteins 4600s are still the answer. They only make 5100 for 4-6" lifted trucks. They do make 5100s for cranked GMT800s though. My 1500 is cranked and rides on 2500 springs out back. My ride height is the same as bowtiebrody and he has a true 8 lug ecsb 2500 which calls for the same shocks as my 1500.

Bilsteins are great for the price. 5100s are digressive and 4600s are linear FYI.

They're both valved very similarly. The 5100 has a little more rebound because they took into account the extra rate of a cranked up torsion bar, but I believe they're both digressive. I sent a bunch of emails back and forth to them years ago trying to get the lowdown on the difference in valving and availability.

Aren't these only tuned for rebound/compression and then manufactured to a longer length?

Based on what I have seen so far in my short time with gmt400s none of the lifts actually increase travel.

At least on the 3/4 ton trucks I have not seen a mid/long travel kit for these trucks.

Offroaddesign.com can get you shocks for your application. They carry Bilsteins, Tuff Country, King, others too but can't remember. I had a lifted Tahoe years ago, shocks were beyond whooped. I got a set of Tuff Country's from them and road super nice for the price, $200 for 4. I have Bilsteins on my Tundra with 5" lift, and definitely rides firmer than the OEM shocks.

Total travel does not change with a lift kit, valving only differs a little on rebound as previously indicated. Here's a copy/paste of the reply I got from them.

Hello Dustin,

Digressive is digressive there is no more digressive than the other. Both the 4600 and 5100 series shocks utilize a digressive piston and are valved specific to the modification, unloaded torsion bars require less rebound valving and cranked torsions require more to control the spring preload.

For the 97 K3500 you would want the 4600 series

24-104050 - front

24-025683 – rear

We do not have an offering for the 97 1500 4wd with crank torsion bars.
