My truck is 1992 c1500 5.7l

I got the truck with an aftermarket radio already installed, but couldn't find the face of the unit. So I went to walmart and got their $24 unit that just does FM am and bluetooth and such.

I soldered all the wires correctly, I noticed PO put an adapter plug in for their radio. I plug in mine and I get nothing with ignition on. I checked with multimeter I'm getting 12v ignition (red wire) but I'm getting nothing from yellow wire (constant).

Does anyone know where the yellow wire connects to?

Also, I'm assuming I need both wires to have 12v so the unit comes on correct?

Thanks

Did you check your fuses? Should connect straight to either the convenience center under the dash, or the fuse box. I think it's a straight shot from the fuse box. Just to be sure, you're testing it with the key in the on position, right?

Yes I checked my fuses. Yes I'm also testing with the ignition on, I checked the red wire with it off, reads 0v turn ignition on, red wire reads 12v. Did the same with yellow wire, 0v both times.

And the fuse is receiving 12v with key on from the distribution box in the engine compartment?

I will have to make sure on my lunch. I will have to make sure the CTSY fuse isn't blown. I did notice my dome light wasn't working half way through the install... :( that would be the correct fuse to check for the "yellow" (memory) wire correct? Sorry guys, I will give an update after lunch.

Not sure, but I check all fuses when something has gone out. You never know what fuse is a power source for a given circuit.

Welp both fuses were blown.

I believe the CTSY fuse blew last night when I soldering.
Radio finally turned on!

Sorry for the useless thread, it was my mistake.

Well now I'm not getting any sound out if the radio.. turn the volume all the way up, no static or anything from any speaker. Could my speakers be bad?

Not likely all of your speakers are completely dead. The PO might have taken them out, or they may not be hooked up correctly. If you have a multimeter, test the resistance between the positive and negative of the wires leading to the speakers, should be around 4ohms for midrange speakers, but what you don't want to see is nothing or immeasurably high resistance. If it's 0, you've got a short across the speaker, if it's immeasurable, the speaker isn't hooked up, or it's dead. If the speakers show normal resistance hook a 9v battery to the terminals and listen for a small pop, that indicates they respond to a difference in voltage.
