A late model 454 or Marine TBI unit can be bored to 54mm. The 54mm flows 750 cfm.

I have tuned the MEFI computer on a hopped up TBI marine engine. Was stroked to 396 cubes. Aluminum vortec heads. 218/224 comp marine cam. The log style manifolds were changed out for marine water jacketed cast headers. Exhaust was modified with a corsa captains call setup that can be switched to above hull outlets with the flip of a switch rather than being forced through the lower unit and prop. The prop on the bravo drive had to go up 3 pitches from the 320 hp TBI 350 that was in it. 19' boat went from 55 mph to just under 70 mph on a GPS. Went from the 350 turning 4,800 rpm to the 396 turning ~5,200 rpm. The stock 2" bore 350 TBI unit was retained but the injectors were swapped from the 46 lb/hr injectors to the 61 lb/hr units. The marine regulator runs at 30 psi. The 46s flowed 74 lb/hr. The 61s flowed 104 lb/hr. While the owner did add a high performance flame arrestor that breathes better the rest of the induction was straight off the 320 hp 350 Mercruiser. The 320 hp 350 was a Corvette aluminum head engine with the 395' marine cam. Intake manifold was a mercruiser rebranded performer rpm.

$900, lots of custom work, and your fuel system is maxed out.

or

$1200 of bolt-ons and you have room to go up to 600hp.

I totally get the idea of making TBIs work, but I'm tired of spending 2/3 of the money and 3 times the work. I'd rather spend a few dollars more, bolt it on, and go.

No it's not, I running a Vortec (155LPH) fuel pump and my WBO2 tells me my AFR is ~11.2 under WOT all throughout the RPM range.

Well, you evidently don't have to pass emissions, I do and can by switching to a different tune (bank) in the EBL (4 seconds flash).

Do whatever you want to do, it's your truck but, don't bad mouth the TBI unless you have better data than just suppositions.

x2

A single 454 TBI unit bored to 54mm will support over 500 hp.

If emissions are not a concern a ~$500 dual TBI setup and an EBL flash will support over 650 hp and have a dual carb look. With the EBL you can run a 2 bar map sensor and nitrous off the ECM. How about dual small block TBIs on a 6-71 blower with a fogger plate under each TBI?

I will probably stick with the tbi system for the mean time. I purchased the megasquirt fuel injection computer to work with my setup. The 454 injectors may have to be used in case I need the extra fuel. With my stock exhaust and tbi manifold, it may choke it off enough to where the extra fuel may not be needed yet. I like the flexibility to monitor the engine status with the megasquirt interface. I haven't worked with it yet but I am excited to get rid of the OBD I computer.

Oh I don’t know....just dynoed a pretty mild 350. Made 300/385 on a stock intake, stock tbi computer and almost stock tbi unit. (Had to use the bbc injectors) purrs like a kitten, pulls like a mule. Could probably get more out of it but pulling every eency meency miny bit of maximum performance was not the goal. Driveability and reliabilty was.
