Wanted to get some advice on alldatadiy.com - I heard these manuals on the site can save a home mechanic a lot of time compared to a Haynes repair manual. Considering spending the $30 for the year on an SUV I have that needs some work. Opions?

Well worth it in my opinion. They look to be derived from the factory service manual with minor variations. Most of the tables and diagrams are from GM.

Haven’t touched a Haynes manual in years as a result.

Scans of the factory manuals are here though alldata is a bit easier to navigate than scrolling through a PDF...

Factory books are always better than aftermarket books like Haynes. Factory books are specific. Haynes type books are less accurate because they have to cover different products.

I think a factory manual would easily make back your investment in it.

Agreed, the FSM is going to be much better than any Chilton or Haynes book.

Just for comparison, below are the alldata and FSM sections for an idler arm replacement on a 98 K1500...

You'll be glad you went with the factory manuals. I've had an alldatadiy account for years and use it to help my sons with their trucks, but have the factory manual for my '93. Alldatadiy misses quite a bit of information the factory manual has, and some of the wiring diagrams and illustrations have such low resolution you can't read them even if you blow them up. That link from east302 is a keeper. Never knew that info was available. Great stuff, and I downloaded my '93 manuals as mine are getting badly worn out.

Dang, I wish I knew we could download factory manuals from here. I paid over 150 bucks on ebay buying every single one they made for an 88.

88 was the first year of the GMT400. CHECK YOUR COPYRIGHT DATE.

My "1988" manuals were published in '86. The service manual is so full of errors that they had to publish a "Service Manual Supplement" to correct some of them. I got into trouble when trying to open the heater box, the service manual said the dash was removable a certain way...and it was not. The Supplement had a different procedure.
