Finished up install of a Viper 4105V keyless entry/remote start system on my 97 K1500. To my amazement everything worked on the initial tests w/ basically no troubleshooting. To me, the ability to lock/unlock with remote, start my truck from inside the house to warm up in the morning, and leave the truck running but remove keys from ignition to lock (“pit stop” feature) is awesome.

I’ve done various 12V wiring projects in the past but never anything this extensive. However It’s fairly straightforward once you identify the correct wires in the vehicle. The12volt.com was immensely helpful. I studied install manuals, relay diagrams, wiring diagrams, etc for a couple weeks before attempting.

Glad to hear! I'm starting on researching this myself, and the viper 4105v is what I'm leaning forward to, as they are plentiful, and a good price! My truck has never had keyless entry, and it would be a huge upgrade if it did.

If I may ask, are there any pointers you could possibly share for someone looking to do this? I'm confident in my ability of wiring, but I've never put something like this in, so I've been on the ball on it for a while now

https://www.the12volt.com/ is an excellent resource, you can make a free account on their forum and access the “install bay” which has wiring diagrams, install manuals, pictorials, etc. There’s a detailed install guide for the Python 413 there, it’s essentially the same unit as the 4105. I found it extremely helpful.

All of the wires you need tap into are either in the steering column or in the drivers side kick panel, except the tach wire which I grabbed at the gauge cluster. I soldered/heat shrunk all of my splices. A good DMM is a must, ideally with a bed of nails test clip.

The door locks are the 5wire reverse polarity type, so you’ll either have to run two relays or use the DEI 451 module that plugs directly into the Viper unit. I used the 451 and it worked perfect, it also comes with an install guide. The12volt.com has a diagram of how to wire the two relays if you go that route.

The built in relay for the parking lights is 10A max. If you tow frequently, I’d check to make sure you don’t exceed 10A with the trailer lights. Mine tested less with my boat trailer w/ LED’s. If you’re over 10, you’ll have to switch the polarity of the parking light output and use a relay.

Best of luck!

Finishing up the install on one of these in my 99 Suburban today. It seems much nicer than my previous unit. Did you use the resistors included in the 451 module?

Get yourself the smart start module and you can do the same thing from another state. I unlocked the car for my wife from Houston. We’re in Ca. You can also track your vehicle and set a perimeter fence.

I was just looking at these, definitely cool, but the module alone costs more than twice what I have into the project as is. Christmas is just around the corner though.....

I have the same alarm system with the remote start. I absolutely love it.
