Anyone know the max. weight rating of the 14B SF 6-lug axle?

Truck is 92 K2500 (LD 6-Lug), GVWR 7200 lbs with a 9.5' Kodiak camper on back. I hit the scales a while back, fully loaded with fuel, water, propane, gear etc the rear axle weighed in at 5600 lbs. I suspect the truck is overweight...

It's a loaded question. The 6 lug was rated at 4600# RAWR, but the 8 lug semi float was rated at 6000# RAWR. The big question is where is the 6 lug held back? That missing leaf? The bigger drums? Both? The world may never know. I wouldn't be too overly concerned as the axle housing is the same. Add bags, hydroboost, and feel happy. Also skip weigh stations.

Loaded question indeed and i see you have answered it well. At the end of the day, will my axle break or become dangerous? Didnt realize that the 8 lug SF had the same housing, thats encouraging. Airbags are next up, should prob replace those 27 year old leafs...
I like what you did with K1500 'towpig', big leafs, hydroboost etc. Nice job!

Thanks, the mods make a helluva difference. The stock 1500 aluminum wheels are only rated to 2000# each as I recall, so don't ever put those on. I want to say the steel wheels are closer to 3000, they're stamped with their rating somewhere. Make sure you have load range E tires on there as well. Airbags will help spread the load on the frame. You do have a lighter frame than an 8 lug. It's thinner and lacks the reinforcements at the leaf mounts.

I checked my rims and tires before work. Factory steel rims, load E tires which state they are rated at 3048lbs each, so just north of 6000# at the rear. I learnt the hard way on the frame, had her fully loaded for a big camping trip, lots of firewood in the back, we took the scenic way, **** road, bumpy as. I now have a bent jounce, bump stop which is attached to the bed frame, aka frame channel is slightly bent upward from what i can see... Not sure whether im ****** or not. Might be ok to chuck the airbags in? I'll take a photo after work.

My Airlift bags came with about a foot long piece of c channel that wedges inside the stock c channel. It was a tight squeeze to get it in, but if it's bent for a half ton frame I could see why. Half ton frames are 3/16" thick, 8 lugs are 1/4", and crew cab long beds are 5/16" thick.

Ahh i like that idea, inserting a section of C channel inside the frame for reinforcing. Just gotta find a way to correct the damage. Check it out...

Do you have a pic of the inside facing out? I'd be inclined to getting after the bumpstop mount with a bfh. Those go in the trash when you install airbags anyway.
