LS motors already run tight clearances. If you put a hv oil pump on with oversized bearings that just makes no damned sense and I'd say find a new engine builder. Undersized bearings and hv oil pump on the other hand work much better together and allow the crank to flex more without galling at high RPM.

I do agree. Over sized bearings without measuring the clearances sounds like trouble to me. They don't have much room for error.

I think GM spec for Alum blocks is .0006-.0025 for Rods and .0007-.002 for mains with a oil spec of 5w30.

I don't rem what iron block specs are. I'll have to look that one up.

The more miles I put on them the thicker the oil i use... almost 500,000 miles and I'm running 15w40.

Where you live?
15w50 is some thick stuff for winter time.
My worn out 6.0 doesn't like 1 5w40 when it's 30*.

This builder of yours is giving some damned weird advice on the oil. I'm with him on the pump. This isn't a race car motor.

He did the same to my buddies 6.0 tahoe. he runs t6 but yeah I too was thinking that 15w was some heavy stuff. Im in louisiana.

Yeah thats what he was saying, he also stressed sucking the pan try and cavitating the pump since ill be using a stock truck pan he said no go.

Yeah the reason I mentioned boost is my builder put some extra slop into my high boost motor. Said the swelling on the piston and rings could seize the motor. The only rule. He gave me was no boost til the motor. Was warm
