So I started to disassemble the engine to see what I was working with and discovered that someone has done a little bit of work inside. The cylinders have been bored 30 over and it has domed pistons but the stock peanut port heads. Don't know what that would put the compression at or if that's common on these engines. Maybe I lucked out and won't have to buy pistons just change rings

Cylinders look fine, it's just the truck this motor came out of has 450000km so I'm not sure how many km the motor has on it so just make everything fresh and new and peace of mind while I'm in there

I read in a couple of those articles the domed pistons with peanut port heads got around 9.3 compression ratio.

So the pistons that were installed in the engine are L2349 which were a ls6 replacement piston and when paired with 119cc chamber give around a 10.1 compression ratio. The heads that are on the engine are 10114156: ’91 and later oval port, open chamber, 2.06- and 1.72-inch valves. Used on Gen V and Gen VI 454ci engines. They are a 118cc chamber so I'm assuming it's right around that 10.1 compression ratio but not 100 percent sure, I'm sure somebody would be able to correct me if I'm wrong. I don't know if a cam was added yet but I'll find out soon enough.

im running a 1993 bravo 330 454 with flat tops pistons and 10141279 vortech heads lunati flat tappet tbi camshaft edelbrock tbi intake port matched to the large oval heads with the right tune it might make 400 with the 4l80e and 14 bolt with 373 it is better on fuel than a stock 1990 454 and way more drivable if you have pop up pistons and large chamber heads your still above the tbi recomended 9 :1
