I'm not sure if there 's a specific thread on this or not but I'm hoping to gather some info on upgrading a gen V 454. I'm a newbie to the Gen V motors and What I'm hoping to accomplish is specific head upgrades whether it be aftermarket or factory from a different generation, also discovered viktor reinz doesn't make the gaskets anymore to put mark IV heads on a Gen V but fel-pro does but they are not side specific like the viktor ones were. Also hoping to find out cam upgrades, intake options, valve train options, going from non adjustable to adjustable. I know they are not the best engine to try and upgrade but I got the motor for free as well as the 4l80e 2wd tranny, computer, radiator and basically any other part I need. I'm looking to install this in a 92 bagged truck I'm working on and basically making an ss clone. Looking to just get more power and not too worried about gas mileage as it will just be going to local car shows and cruises and any long trips to shows will be hauled on a trailer. Between 400 and 500 hp would be my target goal for this motor. Thanks

Well that's great news if Felpro is now making that gasket. Slap on some big ovals with a decent intake and healthy cam and you're right where you want to be. Do you have a part number for said gasket?

I thought I read somewhere these were good heads. The lower end is the same pretty much so anything that can be done to a early block could be done to this. Plus factory roller cam. Injectors can be had from certain F motors, tuning the same as any other motor. Ive heard the tune is very lame factory, a good tuner can get decent power from it.

You are clearly not describing the GenV 454. The heads suck, they were flat tappet, and an f body never got a big block unless you're talking about the 1960s and early 70s.

Isn’t Gen V vortec? If it ain’t then yes heads do suck. Get some 049s or 781 large oval ports. An excellent engine builder told me you could put a flower pot in place of one piston in a big block n still make power...

Gen V is TBI, Gen VI is Vortec. No need to lose TBI, slap an adapter on a carb intake.
