Broken windshield wipers

ok so today my driver side windshield wiper messed up. I heard a pop and it got stuck hanging off by my mirror. Passenger side still wrks great. I tried to push it back over and only got it halfway down. Whenever I run my wipers it does the same thing

STOP running your wipers. Remove both wiper arms, remove ALL of the screws that hold the cowl trim piece on. Double check that you have ALL of the screws out, remove the trim piece and look at the wiper transmission. it is most likely off of the bell crank on the wiper motor.

Agreed; quit running them - but to me it sounds like the wiper "tower" broke (partially) and spun on the shaft as it sounds like the arm still moves? Easy enough to get another one from the boneyard; they generally don't go bad too often. Available new as well but nothing wrong with saving bucks on a boneyard piece.

I just replaced the transmission assembly due to the passenger side wiper chattering on high speed. One problem I had was the wiper blade arms would not fit on the new assembly. Ordered ac/delco assembly thru Amazon. Found that Dorman arms fit fine so ordered 2. 1996 C3500 SRW LB CC Silverado 7.4L 238,000 miles. Old arms would only go half way onto spline. PITA.

My advice is replace it all. I just bought everything new. Its 30 yr old and I,m not putting old used parts on something as important as wipers.
