Need some help. Is there an aftermarket class III (or higher) hitch out there that will fit my 1990 stepside AND allow me to carry a full-size spare? If someone has one, please let me know what model you are using. etrailer was no help. The one they recommended looked great, but sat too far inboard to squeeze the spare tire in. Thanks in advance.

Do you have that model on a short bed with a full-size spare in place? I dont really care what brand. Just want the spare to fit. I'm O for 2 now with Curt hitches that the websites said were direct fit. Sure, they are a great fit on the frame, but the receiver crossbar blocks the spare.

Just hoping someone with a stepside can tell me what model they use.

A factory hitch won't work? I have a shortbed fleetside with 265/75/16 spare and factory hitch.

Diito, a 265/75/16 is about as big as will fit under there. I don't believe the frames are different.

Love a factory hitch, and next step was to troll a salvage yard (dont have any experience doing this). happen to know the part number? Parts catalog lists two 15639029 (longer mounting bracket to frame) and 15639029 (short mounting, looks like it grabs a bumper mounting bolt.) Which one is on your shortbed?

Mine is the one that grabs a bumper mount bolt in the lower right. Real estate is tight with the short bed, I believe the bumper mounts are also different from short to long bed. For what it's worth, the part number on the sticker on my hitch is 10050600.

Curt sells one that is a direct fit. Class IV and made in Wisconsin if I remember right. I put it on my '89 K1500. My exhaust prevents the original spare from fitting though.

I've tried 3 Curt's that etrailer said were direct fit, and one even noted it fit a step bumper AND allowed the spare to fit. Agree that they are quality hitches. Have one on my Ford that is beautiful. I found a factory hitch still available through GM dealers. Part number 19245497 seems to be the latest iteration. $200 shipped, so I'll update the thread if that works out. Thanks for all the help.
