I have a 98 Tahoe with about 120k miles (192k kms).

I'm planning a decent sized road trip this summer towing an oversized tent trailer, and while the truck is up on maintenance (or will be) I thought I'd ask for any recommendations for GMT400 specific spares that folks on here might recommend - like certain relays that are more likely to fail and that sort of thing?

Thanks

Cap and rotor, maybe? I road trip mine a couple times a year 1200 miles each way, I just keep up on maintenance and bring extra fluids and some hand tools.

Lol!

First step is keep the truck up to speed on maintenance before leaving, then take a few generic spares plus tools and fluids, but I was just thinking of other things that may go - electric things. I've never needed anything before, but I figured it doesn't hurt to ask...

I know I was being a little sarcastic, like 94Burb said, take some tools and keep up on your maintenance.

When I first got this truck I worried about reliability on a road trip and ended up doing a ton of maintenance. I pretty much got told to send it by the guys on here and they were right. Now I'd hop in my truck and drive to South America with nothing but an oil change.

Serpentine belt. I had the compressor blow out on my truck last summer, shredded the serpentine belt, glad I had a spare on hand.

I keep a spare serp belt and a jug of water for the radiator on me everywhere I go, just in case. Various hose clamps, basic tool set. Specialty tools like the correct socket for removing the brake calipers. Little stuff like that. Purely for peace of mind. Ironically, the one thing I don't have is a spare tire.

Here's one that goes over looked, if you still have your spare tire make sure it actually lowers down and raises back up. You blow a tire and you think your fine to only find out your spare tire crank box is rusted and stuck. I lower my tire once a year being in Michigan and shoot the cable and wrench location with WD40 just to keep it moving.

And relating to the spare tire make sure the road side jack still works on your truck if its lifted or lowered. and make sure that jack fits your trailer too or bring a separate jack in case you need to change a spare out. That ends up being missed a lot I've seen.

Also bring some spare wheel/hub bearings for your trailer and depending on the axle style you could swap out to new bearings or new hub and get back on the road without stopping by a shop and having a hefty bill.
