If it's leaking trans fluid, I'd check the cooler lines. The transmission pan can be removed without anything else getting in the way, so you might as well drop that and replace the filter and gasket too. Get yourself some cheapo tires for now and look into wheels and tires later on down the road, anything is better than the dry rotted tires.

But an SRT.......

I vote for both! Spend as little as necessary on the Burb, and the rest on the SRT. That thing is such a power house you will be very satisfied for a while before you need to start mods on it. I own a '99 Burb and a '17 Charger. Although it's not the SRT engine, it does have the SRT extras. The next one will definitely be the SRT! If I didn't have the lifetime warranty on my '17, I would have traded it a couple months ago, I was inches from making that trade. If I can be patient for 2 more years I can get the Hellcat, and I will still have the Burb for all the other fun stuff. The Burb is priceless, it will never leave my fleet.

You sound like my buddy lol. It's crossed my mind but you've still got 4200 some pounds of bodyroll.

Again knowing myself and my love of blower whine, if I go down that road things could get stupid real fast.
An aluminum block ls swap will drop 150+ pounds off of the sub. The srt is 4279 pounds and a 2wd sub shows 4680 pounds. Food for thought.

That SRT is a lot more comfortable at 100+ MPH than any Suburban would be, without having to do a ton of suspension work. ;)

My first gen SRT8 300 goes from 0 to felony before you can notice a radar detector going off..

OP, consider this. Your Suburban will probably be 100% fine or very near 100% with minimal work. Drive it/enjoy it for a few years while saving up the bucks for the right SRT. Let them get a few years old then hunt for a low-mile example. The years will work in your favor. I bought a near-mint 2006 300C SRT8 with under 10K miles in 2017 - for way less than half of sticker price.

Richard,
My 2011 M56s was like that too. From dead stop to 112 mph in a 1/4 and up to 158 mph in a standing mile. It would cruise along well into triple digit speeds and never break 3,000 rpm doing it. Handled like it was on rails and stopped on a dime. At 100 mph it was quiet inside and hard to tell you were rolling that.

Good point guys. I'll get her back on the road. Drive it a while before making a decision.

Maybe wait for the new ram trx to come out and see what that's all about.

I have a similar story. My grandfather had a Grand Marquis, only 23k on it when he died. It sat for 3 years. Then I got it. Important to get all the old gas out so it does not gum up the fuel pressure regulator or injectors. It now has 75k on it. I've only done routine maintenance in those 50k miles over 6 years.
Change those fluids and keep it.

I vote for keeping it. No car payments, easy to insure. Needs very little to get it as a driver.

I’m more of a 4x4 guy. But a slightly lowered LS powered sleeper couch blowing dudes off the line at stop lights would be really cool.
