So i have a 92 half ton and the trans completely ****** itself. I also have a trans but im not sure which trans it is. Its not a 4l60e but it does have an electrical connector on the left side. What trans is that? Ive done a lot of research and im getting different answer. Will it work?

92 would be a 700r4. that electrical connector only has one function . Torque converter lock up

Your lock up would not work. But why would you not want to hook it? Your truck has the plug if it's a 92 .

The connector also gives you P/N D & OD as well as TCC comms to your ECM. The 700r4 and 4l60 are the same transmission Chevy just changed the name from 700r4 to coincide with their new platform.

The 700r 4 has a tv cable and a 4 prong plug on the drivers side. Iirc there's only 1wire on that plug though.

I don't know, when data logging my 88 I see when it's in P/N and when I shift into Drive or Overdrive it shows "D" until the trans shifts into 4th it shows "OD" the ECM needs this info in order to set engine idle in P/N or D and when to lock the TC.

Either way, your truck won't act right if you don't have your trans talking to your ECM/PCM

Yes it has a TV cable which is critical to adjust properly too!

I am just going by what I remember from years ago. It may have 4 wires coming out of it. Especially for efi vehicles.

a 92 will have mechanical shifter mechanism like a squarebody to got from P to D, the 92 ECM controls ONLY the engine. The driver side plug (4 prong) is for TCC only. What your refering to is the 4L60 which is completely computer controlled. The 92 700r4 is the 4L60 (non E) and uses the TV cable like all the older years.
