I had a friend run the check engine light on my truck this morning and as afore mentioned it threw a p1345 code for crankshaft position correlation. The truck runs and starts wonderful and really has no issues other than a minor, and I mean minor shake at idle.. should I mess with it? And if so what is my best course of action?

I don't know why you would knowingly neglect an issue with your truck, unless it's just a beater. If the truck runs fine, it could be as simple as a loose retaining bolt or connector for either the crank or cam position sensor, or one of the sensors could be bad. Worst case, you need to redo the timing and replace the timing set.

Welp Ill check it out and I won’t be opposed to changing it out but it shouldn’t be a timing set because the engine is relatively new. Anyways I appreciate the help

Of course man, that's what this place is all about. You say the engine is relatively new, is it a crate engine? Did it come with all new sensors? If so, what brand?

P1345 most likely suspect is worn distributor gear or upper bushing. But, since the engine was replaced, the distributor is most likely just not set correctly. Takes a scanner that can read the can retard angle, set to within 2° +/- of zero while holding the rpms up to at least 1000 for a good reading.

Set correctly, it should run better. If it doesn't want to hold a setting then check the distributor for aforementioned wear...

The cammed 5.0L in my 99 Tahoe had the P1345 code. CMR was 16* off. Restabbed the distributor and set as close to Zero ad I could (0.5+ from memory) Bottem end torque, throttle response and gas mileage was much better after. Oddly it seemed to pull just as well at WOT and high rpm.

My truck didn't seem to run any better after adjustment but it was only 7 degrees. I don't think it sets a code until is 20 something. Now it jumps between 0 and 1.

It is a jasper 305 stock replacement so I really wouldn’t to expect and excessive wear but I still appreciate any input. I would have a hard time believing the distributor considering the engine has less than 100,000mi on it (I’m not exactly sure since I bought the truck with the engine previously replaced, I suspect it’s around 70,000)
