I decided to take a risk today and cut the "flap" off of my throttle body blade. After getting everything back together, I noticed that the gas pedal was extremely stiff and almost made it impossible to drive. However, there was a great amount of improved acceleration (NOT HORSEPOWER). Upon further inspection, I noticed that there was almost slack if you'd call it that in the throttle cable coming off of the tb butterfly. If you look closely on the throttle body above the butterfly, you'll notice a small torx bolt that doesn't let the butterfly twist past that point. Really a Redneck fix but by putting a zip tie around the torx, the gas pedal goes back to normal while keeping the improved throttle response. I can post pics tomorrow but I just saw a lot of controversy over this mod and decided to give it a go myself

I did this a few years back and I’m so glad I did. It really improved the throttle response in the truck.

I do that to every vortec I get, along with blocking the EGR.

Not sure what you mean by the torx/ziptie though, a pic would be nice.

Agreed, torx and zip tie had me confused.

Also I don’t have my EGR blocked! Curious.

From my best understanding, that flap is there to distribute the EGR gasses more evenly to the back cylinders so when people remove it without blocking the EGR, the front 4 cylinders get all of the exhaust gasses and fouls the plugs faster and can cause relative drive-ability problems. To delete it right would be to re-program the computer to not turn on the EGR (no CEL) and make a blocking plate to go between the EGR solenoid and the manifold. Otherwise if you dont mid a constant check engine light you can simply unplug it temporarily to see if you like it or not (it'll add even more throttle response on top of removing the flap). However just by unplugging it or just reprogramming the computer to not turn it on can still have some gasses leaking past so a blocking plate is needed for long term deletion.

So basically, when my tb plate closed all the way the pedal became almost as some called it an "On-off switch". While playing with the butterfly I noticed there was a small torx where the top of the butterfly rested, so in order to remove the stiff stop in the pedal, i but a zip tie around the torx to allow the butterfly stop to rest on something before reaching the stiff stop. Ill post pics around 3, but maybe your throttle just never had this problem, idk.

Fortunately I didn’t experience this issue. Glad you were able to fix it.
