Good call guys! A magnet doesn't stick to the hood. It sticks to the fenders just fine.

Same problem that many 2000+ Tahoe, Yukon and Suburban rear gates have as some of them are aluminum and they get similar corrosion.

I do not have any experience repairing corroded aluminum and then putting a nice topcoat over it. Does anyone have any helpful tips or products to use.

Ford is replacing the hood and having it repainted. Not sure that the hood had to be replaced, but that is what they are doing.

My friends dad has a 2017 ram 2500 that has rust spots/bubbling paint on 3 of the 4 wheel wells already...the neighbors 2016(?) F-250 has a good amount of bubbling paint on the lower tailgate edge and under one of the large emblems on the front door. Tailgate has been replaced once already, and the oversized ecoboost emblem flew off on the highway with a piece of paint still stuck to it, nice big oxidized spot underneath. he was pissssssed(think his payments on that thing are $7-800ish a month) ...they sure don't build em like they used to

For what it's worth, my grandmother had a 2012 explorer with bubbling paint in the same place. That car was totaled and her 2017 escape is beginning to bubble in the same place. My other grandmother has a taurus with bubbling paint in the same place. This is Texas too lol

Aluminum panels are common in a lot of vehicles. They corrode just like steel panels but seem to not develop holes as easy. The aluminum corrosion is aluminum oxide which can protect the metal from further corrosion. It is the same as an aluminum light pole in the parking lot forming a protective layer. A bare steel pole would continue to corrode until it fell apart.
Steel and aluminum together cause galvanic corrosion. With dissimilar metals in contact and the presence of moisture, the lesser metal is sacrificed. Just like the magnesium anode in a fire truck or water heater, they are sacrificed to protect the tank. In collision repair we are diligent about isolating the two metal to prevent direct contact. The OEM's are great at it in some areas , in others they don't seem to care.

Aluminum is painted about the same as a steel panel. REmove all corrosion, prime, block, seal , paint.
