Not sure what style dash you're working with in particular, but on my 93 I read all sorts of crazy things people had tried. What worked for me was sticking my long skinny fingers all the way up in there from the bottom with a 1/4 drive ratchet and just taking it out. Was not comfortable but I was able to do it.
This was also after I had tried all the other crazy stuff people talk about doing

Also once you do get it out, don't put it back in.

If you mean the recirc door I just replaced on my '96 and had to use a scope to see the bolt. I tried every tool but only a 1/4 drive ratchet on a extension worked. It's right against the fire wall and the rubber matting up there constricts the area. i had to keep pulling the wrench out and click over a few to synch up to the bolt head again.

When i did the temp blend door, I believe i took out the ash tray and drilled a socket hole into the plastic cubby in the dash behind the ash tray and gave direct access to the bolt.

When you say blend door...problem is many people call these actuators by the wrong name. I'm probably guilty of it myself. I find it helps to explain the function of the particular actuator you're working on.

From driver side to passenger side... far driver side you have the vent position actuator which controls which vents the airflow comes from. Middle (above passenger side of transmission hump) one controls the temperature hot/cold mix. Far passenger side just above and next to the blower motor is the actuator that controls fresh air/recirculate function.

IMO the fresh air/recirculate actuator is the one that's a huge PITA to replace and the shop manual actually tells you to pull the dash, evacuate the refrigerant, and pull the HVAC box! It's way simpler than that, though. Still tricky but WAY simpler than pulling the dash: https://www.chevytalk.org/fusionbb/showtopic.php?tid/170970

That is the procedure I went by for my 96, and quickly found out there was not the room for all that tooling. Ended up having to use an extended handle on a 1/4 ratchet driver. With the driver in there, there was no room for anything else.

Understood. But OP has a '93.

I just recently changed all three of my actuators. The recirc by the blower and the vent control were easy. To get to the temp control actuator I pulled out the ash tray and drilled a half inch hole in the plastic in line with the top screw. This allowed me to access the screw and to position the vent door inline with actuator slots. I used a long flat blade screwdriver through the actuator hole to twist the vent door and slide the actuator on. Hope we're talking about the same thing
