Hypothetically if you found a truck like this and wanted to take the molding off because it has the sport red stripes.

Could it be done without destroying it? If so, how might one do that and how would you reattach it. Wondering if anyone has done this or considered it and if you would humor me in taking a shot at the answer.

For those that do not know, the molding on the Sport trucks is unique in that the grooves have red accents. Yes, you can paint them, but probably not the same conceptually.

A hot day, some fishing line tied to a couple of pices of dowling & a putty knife for the side moldings.
Attach with some black dual-sided tape.
The bumper trim is a bit more difficult to remove without breaking the push-pin tabs.
Easier with the bumpers off of the vehicle so as to get at those tabs from the backside. Pliers & a screwdriver to squeeze them tight & push through the holes in the bumper.
Take pix & measurements of their placement on the truck before removing. The truck's body line above the molding is not perfectly straight. It has a slight downward arch behind the front wheel, then it goes back up behind the rear wheelwell. If you follow that line with the body molding, the molding will look like a skate's blade.
I snapped a chalk line from the end of the front bumper trim to the rear bumper trim. Your bumpers have to fit properly to get that right. No bent brackets making the bumpers sit high/low/twisted as compared to original.
Take your time. That trim in good shape is like finding dinosaur teeth.

I have pix of the install I did on my '97 on another computer. Although, not with the red trim. Just original style roll stock. I'll see if I can dig them up.

I would suggest some heat on the glued side trim. Nothing major just a blow dryer to loosen up that glue. Then as said fishing line is you best friend. As for the front id remove the bumper and hope the plastic clips dont break. Take your time and the results will be better.

My vote is to buy the whole truck!

You know, since two is better than one or something like that.

Fishing line and heat sounds like a reasonable approach.

Thanks all for the replies. east302, don't think that did not cross my mind. If the interior was red like my Sport it would be on a trailer already.
