I live in Lafayette. This add looks like a scam. If you click on the contact link, it gives you a CL e mail adress to reply to, and how many tahoes came with a v-6. If it was a real add, it should have a phone number, or at least a real e mail adress.

Why would anyone use their own email address instead of the Craigslist relay system... that's just asking for spam anr/or giving their name away for those that have an email address with their name. I don't give my phone number out either... then I start getting texts from way far away that are just scammers that want to send me a check, and ask for the change back.

You may have a point, but if I cant call and talk to the person then drive over and pick up the car or truck, then IMO its not worth fooling with. Lafayette is a decent size place. The area listed, is not the best area of town. It just smells like something is not rite to me about the whole thing. But hey thats just me I guess. To me, if they really want to sale something, then the person buying it should not have to jump through hoops to do so. Matter of fact, there was a woman shot not far from that area 2 days ago, while being car jacked.

I don't see how sending an email is jumping through hoops. Usually, I'm selling smaller stuff less expensive stuff than a vehicle, but I have sold one vehicle through Craigslist. I think he emailed and asked for my number. I also meet people at a gas station, although that's can be a little difficult with a car if it won't run, or is at a remote location.

Like I said, maybe its just me, but I just wont fool with something, if I cant contact the owner, without waiting on a replay that may or may not happen, or you get a call back after giving your number, and they start with this story about how the car or truck is for there dead son, or husband, who is now divorced or what ever, and it is here or there, ( scam). That's what happens all to often when dealing with someone who doesn't want to post there Phone number. I watched this e-bay add a few years ago for a 1972 El Camino. I sent the guy a PM and told Him if it didn't sale, to give me a call. He did. We talked several times, and agreed on a price. The El Camino was in Mississippi, and I am in Louisiana so I said do you have the title. He says no, but I can get it. I said well just call me when you do, and I will come and get it. I really want it, and have cash money. I didn't hear back for weeks when I finally got him to answer my call back, he said, oh its been sold. 1 month later, its back on e-bay. This is what I mean about jumping through hoops. Maybe it has worked for you e mailing back and forth, but to me, like I said, if I can not contact the person sailing directly, I am just not going to fool with it. What are they hiding by not posting there phone number is the first thing that goes through my mind.

MAAANNNN do I have a story for you guys! It's probably going to be a novel, but I'll try to shorten it up.

Two days ago, I was scrolling through Craigslist, and found an 08 Lucerne with "110k" miles on it, for $2500. I was SURE it was too good to be true, but I'd never know for sure unless I checked it out. Who knows, it could have been an older persons car that they just want out of their yard. Anyways, the ad says it has new shocks, runs great, drives straight, 30 mpg. Only selling cause he got a new car. Pics made it look in great condition, it was in a good neighborhood (NOT Detroit). So, I tell my dad about it. I work a 9-5, he owns his own business, so I start asking him if he could possibly go and look at it for me before we lose it since it says it was just posted 14 hours prior. He tells me yes and to get the details.

The only contact info on the page was to call a phone number. I prefer to email, but I figured screw it. I text the number first, since it was 6 am. I waited until about 9:30, and called him. He answers the phone like he was instantly annoyed by me calling. I told him I saw his car on CL, and asked if it was still available. He said yes. I told him I wanted to come look at it, and asked him what was a good time. He asks, "You coming to buy it or look at it?" I informed him that I'll obviously look at it before I just give him the money (seriously, dumbass?). He says Man, just get the money and call me when you have it." I said, "Uhh....ok." He hangs up. I tell my dad about it, and he tells me to call back and ask if he can meet at a police station right by his house, and that he has the money. So, I call him back and tell him my dad has the money and ask if he can meet at police station. He says, "Just get the money and call me when you're on your way," and hangs up again. I'm getting pissed.

About an hour goes by, and my dad says he has the money and is heading out with my uncle. I re-check the listing, and it's gone. NOW, however, there's a listing for $2200 and $2000. I screenshot the $2000 one and sent it to my dad. Anyways, my dad calls him off his shop phone (didn't let him know we knew each other), and tells him that he has $2k in hand and wants to look at the car for his daughter. The guy asks if he's coming to buy it or look at it. My dad answers his same dumb ass question the way that I did.

My dad gets to the public parking lot, and the car pulls up. Dents and scratches everywhere once it gets closer. All 4 wheels have horrible curb rash, the inside looks like a restaurant dumpster, and the radio face looked like someone punched it (he sent me pics). Then, my dad turns the car on, and the odometer says 244k. Before he can ask about the 110k vs 244k dilemma, the guy cuts him off and says, "Yeah, the body has 244k on it but the engine has 110k on it cause it was replaced." My dad asks for paperwork, this moron says, "I used to have a stack of receipts but I threw them all away." My dad told him he wasn't interested, and the guy ripped the keys out of my dads hand and hopped in his car and took off.

Although he didn't waste as much time as my dad's and uncle's, I was pissed. Like really, *******? He literally put NONE of that in the Craigslist ads. I'm guessing he was that irritated and irate because everybody who comes to look at it says the same thing to him.

I hope he gets hit by a train.

Lol, you gave the guy more of a chance than I would have. I had a guy yell at me once. I went to look at a Ford truck, and as soon as I pulled up I knew it wasn't the vehicle for me. It had the 300 Inline six, which was what interested me. I don't recall if the guy had posted pictures or not. It was a long time ago so I may not have had pictures. It was really rusty. I talked to the guy because I figured it was rude to just drive off, but that's probably what people had been doing since he had asked me beforehand, if I was actually going to show up. I talked to the guy and said I didn't think it was the vehicle for me, but he convinced me to take it for a spin... I drove it, and it was a pile of crap. He then yelled at me for wasting his time, and what did you expect for X amount of dollars. What a maroon!
