Yes, I know this thread is old but its still good info so Ill add my post in.

I have a 98 Tahoe. I need to replace the idler arm and pitman arm. I will also be doing a new Redhead box. I have felt that full boost feel on the highway about 3 times in the last 6 months so I think one of the sensors may bee going out. The way I look at it is I have a few options here to correct it.

Option 1 is to buy the gm kit to eliminate it. Fight the removal of the pump and then reinstall

Option 2 is to replace the sensor(s). Not sure if the one on the pump is still available

Option 3 replace the pump and get one from a pre EVO truck and then get the matching correct hard line to the box

Option 3 will require the purchase of a new pump and line but it will also eliminate an extra connection.

Just looking for advice here on what would be better for long term.

Not sure if it matters but I have a 6" lift and Im running 20x9 wheels with 305 tires. Not sure if its worth keep a properly working EVO setup on a lifted truck with oversized tires
In a similar situation, I have 34s and a 6" lift on a k2500 Suburban. I am pretty sure I am at full boost all of the time and I'm actually seeing some end play in my steering gear output shaft as well as leaks around the EVO. Never have liked the steering, but I'm worried that my wife won't be able to park this thing if I delete the EVO.
On top of that my pump appears to be leaking from the input shaft.
My wallet is telling me to just buy the rebuilt O'Reilly pump with the EVO delete kit as it is only $20 more than the delete kit itself and it has a lifetime warranty.
My ego is telling me to get a hydro assist kit from RNR but that is $600 I could spend on fuel to feed my big block...
Somewhere in the middle is a Lee Steering box but that gets close to the $600 mark by the time you select all of the HD options

Any words of wisdom out there? I'm assuming both my pump and gear are stock and I've got hydroboost on my truck.

Sorry this started to include steering gear information on top of EVO pump stuff, just figured it is all one system that affects each component and the drivability.

Forgot to ask the most important/relevant question...

Has anyone replaced the EVO wheel sensor and still had issues (ie the valve on the pump is bad?) I would hate to spend the $40-$60 on the sensor just to find out the EVO valve is bad.

Replacing the sensor on the column has always fixed my issues. I've been through two or three in each of my '97s. I've had them fail both intermittently and where they go full boost at all times.

I get what you're saying, but when the sensors fail or are unplugged the system delivers full boost. Full boost all the time feels super sketchy. If that's what the EVO delete feels like I have no idea why anyone would ever choose to do it.

EDIT - Example to clarify what I'm trying to say... I've driven pre-EVO trucks and they don't feel anything like an EVO truck with a malfunctioning system delivering full boost all the time. EVO at full boost at all times feels unsafe to me, especially over 40MPH or so. Way too little resistance in the wheel and zero feedback.

I was actually trying to figure out wtf these wires were for because I could not find anything on it on my Hanes manual or online ( until now)... but i got my 97 k1500 suburban last year and essentially the person I bought it from still had EVERYTHING stock... 4 cans of sea foam and an exhaust repair got her to regular speed though... but i drove her in her worst and everything I've done so far has dramatically changed the steering and handling on this suburban. (not at 100 yet, but closer than when I started). So when I got criticized for the poor handling, I smile speed up and told them they have no idea what poor handling is lol. I appreciate the help... There's nothing like real word experience to help us first timers get answers to questions that we can't find answers for.
