Oh wow, so you weren't even trying to remove it! Maybe I'll look mine over... I actually have my bumper off, and need to re-install it.
My truck has always "squirmed" a little, but didn't handle too bad. I am surprised the spring didn't come out of the shackle. The pic is of the front mount. The rear was broken too, but hadn't quite broken into 2 pieces yet - I hit it with a hammer and it finished breaking.

I do not miss rust. . .
I hate it! But haven't found anywhere warm to move to that doesn't have some other (maybe worse) issue to deal with.
