+1 for Dexron in an NP241. Personally I'd use Dexron 6 though, as that's the current iteration and fully backwards compatible with all the older stuff that called for Dex 3.

Any signs of front axle seal leaks? the carrier bearings like to go bad in the front diff and make a hell of a roar.

Thanks man!

I do indeed use GM synchromesh in my 5LM60 trans. PO had gear lube in it and with that hot mess in there shifting was practically impossible below 45F. I don't know if that's because it lubricated so well that the synchros couldn't bite enough or else. With the right fluid in there though the thing shifts great despite having some 230k miles on the clock. Some action shots from last year:

jdla, yeah the front diff has what I thought was the typical “weeping” where the halves come together, nothing substantial....just a few drops always seem to be hanging. Other than a roar, what symptoms might a carrier bearing display that is bad?

Derek, did the rig, looks like you have kept her in very nice condition!

usually if the CV flanges have any up/down play, it's usually the carrier bearings. I don't think it's as common on GMT400s as it is on GMT800's though, but it's very common in the GMT800 world
