It seems like the sun shell to me. I've built a few and seen that a lot.
Where's the cheapest place to get the upgraded one I'm not going to fix this thing anytime soon but when it warms up I will

So if it only does this sometimes does that mean the teeth on the gear that slides into the shell are stripped off? Like they don't want to slide in and engage?
I haven't actually driven it since I parked it I've moved it back and forth in the driveway no problem I had to play around with it quite a bit to make it make the noise.
Now let me see if I remember correctly when the sun shell goes out you lose reverse and what other gear?

Update. Drove the truck today. Not a single issue.
Is there a electric solenoid that is responsible 4 anything to do with the sun shell and Sun Gear I had one solenoid go bad already and I replaced that last year and also wondering if I can put a 4 L 80 e in this truck I haven't searched on Google I'm sure there's lots of info I'm starting a new job at the beginning of the year back in the automotive field with the new baby being born next week at any rate this truck has a 6-inch Lift sitting there waiting to get put on it so it might end up being more of my little project truck

Sounds like the snap ring that holds the output shaft in the t-case let go.
Pull the driveshaft and see if you can pull the output shaft out . It shouldn't have much play if the snap ring is still gpod.
I was seeing some pictures online and they were showing this but I couldn't see where the snap ring was and they had something they were trying to sell people called the T case saver but it looks like you have to take the tail housing off to grab onto it? I'm thinking that this is what the problem because it makes the noise and then I put the truck in park and then back in reverse and it always goes but when it's making the noise it doesn't go into reverse I really got to figure something out because both of my trucks are all screwed up and I started a new job and I cannot afford to have a dead vehicle

I'm starting to think that this is the transfer case so tomorrow on my day off I'm going to tear into it and if I have to I'll go to the junkyard and buy a whole damn transfer case

4 bolts to remove the tail shaft.
Once you get it off. You'll see where the snap ring sits on the output shaft against the bearing if it's still in place. If it broke, it will probably be hanging in place barely or in pieces in the tailshaft.
