Just did mpfi spider swap. Everything went pretty smooth. Got it all back together. Primed pump to check for leaks and gettin a whining noise from spider. Truck still wont start.

Any codes? That plastic intake is a pain in the ass sometimes to get seated. Maybe a big vacuum leak?

I got it on pretty easy other than it was just a tad high like i saw in other posts. Tightened down smooth. No crackin. Its had codes since ive bought it for the timing needin set just everytime i get a chance to have it done somethin else lil more important comes up. The whine is only happenin when pumps runnin with engine off. Truck wont even start. Stuggles to fire then just keeps crankin.

My diagnostic approch. Lookin to see if apider leakin. Removed intake and plugged spider in. Prime pump and the spider whines. Im gettin just under 60 psi primin pump so im gonna go with gauge may be lil inaccurate. Take jumper off n psi holds just over 55 psi. I did find my #1 terminal on cap is cracked pretty bad so may be losin spark there n could be my no fire issue but i also wanted to make sure this spider wasnt leakin. New cap is ordered so im gonna clean up tb and intake a lil more while i wait.

Well everything back together. Spider isnt noisy anymore. New cap n rotor since old cap was broke. Still 60 psi on fuel. 55 key off holdin for bout 20 min. Crankin and tryin to fire but nothin. Not arcs. Wish it was tbi so i could paperclip it or that people around here werent ****** and would help me.

I forget, do you have good spark at all eight cylinders?

Do you have the passlock system—think it came out for 98 maybe?

Its finally runnin but rough. Now its back to what it was before the spider. Runs bout 700 rpm n drops to 1-200 then jumps to 1000 then back to 700. Would the timing not bein set with scanner be affecting this? It ran "ok" doin timing light/ear check up til bout a week before fuel tank leak. No vac leaks, never moved dist, no fuel leaks, no arc. I gotta somehow get one of these jerks with the gm software to drive the 5miles to help me.

O and pressure while runnin. Look ok? Doesnt fluctuate when idle drops.
