Depends on the year, would help if people posting would indicate useful information about their vehicles.

Yep and is adjustable though you don't want to go crazy with it. Parking brake set firmly, chock the wheels if you wanna be extra safe, key on engine off. Put it in reverse and then you can gently shove the switch left/right, it has adjustment teeth that will allow it to move. It's the half-moon shaped switch on top of the steering column inside the cab near the firewall.

Keep in mind this also affects the relation of the park/neutral positions which if they get too messed up, will prevent you from starting the truck as it will break the starter circuit.

IF (big IF) it's like the one on my '88, it'll be like this:

Ratchet adjustment:

The new switch, which includes an extra connector and conductor that my truck doesn't need--but it doesn't get in the way, either.

These are supposedly self-adjusting--but I had to push mine over a notch or two to get everything to work right. One adjustment for both the backup lights AND the park-neutral safety switch for the starter circuit.

In other words, the truck has to crank in both park and neutral, but NOT in reverse, and the backup lights need to work in reverse, but NOT in park or neutral.

So it ended up the switch just needing to be turned a little bit. ; and the plug wasnt contacting good in the circuit panel. Now to find a bumper and put some cube reverse lights in them too.
