Pitman and Idler Arm Replacement Parts

I'm sure everyone here is familiar with how short-lived the pitman and idler arms can be on these trucks. My truck in particular is a '89 Silverado, 2WD, 5.7L.

Wanted to share some comparison pictures between the regular parts to the MOOG Super-Duty Idler Arm (#K6483T) and the Heavy-Duty Pitman Arm (#K6335) I recently installed on my truck. As you can see, the bearings are much larger than the normal ones.

So far, very pleased with how the steering in the truck feels. It feels really solid, even firmer, with nearly no slop at all. Went from having play in the steering wheel from 11-1 (like a clock) to barely anything at all.

Neat. When I changed mine a couple years ago, I also went with Moog parts, but they just came with straight fittings and I had to get my own angles to use instead. (BTW, 1995 parts are a little different than your '89. The idler bracket actually has a short extension hose for the zerk.)

Oh thanks, I went ahead and added my truck info to the first post.

Hopefully there are also the Super-Duty and Heavy-Duty parts available for the other years as well.

I just replaced all the parts on a 1988.awhile back.everything but.ball joints and bushings.you can do them later one main thing even if it looks good.change out.the RAG joint.i installed a new gear box.got it AutoZone.cause the core has to be returned.a new box.not rebuilt

Then all the small parts.in the steering.moog is good.i did the drag link bar too.it was cheap.but found out it can be mounted back wards.flipped over.do not want to do that

Then both roters and bearings and seals.and the rubber brake lines.then had to buy rebuilt calipers.could not buy new.ones.

Tge brake lines go bad.on the inside and you can't tell it.but they do make some caliper,s lock up.not release right

I bought most of my parts.rockauto.com.calipers AutoZone.make sure you get american made wheel bearings.

Years ago.a car with 120 or 140,000.miles ball joints we're gone.but newer vehicles.getting more milage.

Sounds good, and thanks for bringing up the rag joint, I forgot about that. I wonder if there's an after-market polyurethane part available somewhere. That'd really tighten up the steering.

i did the jeep shaft swap turns it into a u-joint NO MORE rag joint problems
