KYB GR-2 shocks. Are these any good for maintaining a stock like ride? Good? Bad? Anything else i need to know?
Was looking to buy a set of these to ditch some heavy duty hard riding shocks my truck currently has. Want a less bone jarring ride.

Thanks in advance
Matt

I have them. I bought some when Rockauto had some cheap. I really can't tell ridewise between shocks, Though. I removed Bilsteins thinking that they must be bad, but they were harder to compress than the KYBs. I put them in the KYB boxes and saved them for when the KYBs go bad.

I have a 1-ton, so there's probably not a lot a shock will do to make the ride feel different.

No experience with the KYBs, but I run Bilstein 4600s on both of my trucks and I'm very happy with them. Your truck is lowered though, right? I don't think Bilstein's catalog lists anything specifically for lowered applications but I'm sure if you called them up they could provide you with part numbers that would work for you.

On the same line of thinking as 454cid, I'm not sure if swapping shocks will make a whole ton of difference in ride quality unless the ones you have now are completely worn out.

Yes its lowered 2-4 but is lowered 2" in the front with spindles so front shocks are still stock length. And although lowered 4" in the rear, it has 2" upper shock extender/relocator brackets, and i plan on adding 2" lower shock extender relocator brackets next payday. This will allow me to run stock length rear shocks as well. I like the 2-4 drop and will prob leave it this height. Did the last 2" in the rear this past weekend. I figure the waybi did this will let me just buy stock length shocks and not have to try to remember if they needed to be a specific length like with drop shocks

Sounds like a good plan to me!

I'd check out the Bilsteins for sure then if you want something new. After running them for a few years on both trucks I don't think I'd ever consider anything else for a stock replacement.

The GR-2 says original ride quality, Was also looking at KYB gas adjust shocks those say for increased performance.. Really looking for a nice compliant ride thats not going to break the bank a little stiffer is ok. Just tired of bone jarring hard. I remember when this truck was new, it felt like i was driving a large RWD sedan. I know having the polyurethane all around changed that somewhat. I had these summit racing brand nitrogen filled shocks. They were great. Firm but not filling rattling. Then they wore out. The replacements i put on are terrible. Hard as a ******* rock. Looked for those shocks from summit. They no longer make them.

I am running a full set of KYB shocks that i put on in 2015 to replace the originals. The ones I have are the Excel-G line but I believe that is the same as GR-2. I haven't had any issues with them and happy with the ride quality.

I think i may have put this thread in the wrong section. Looking at it now, this section looks to be for lifted or 4x4 trucks. My bad on this, is there a moderator that can move it to the lowered trucks section.

Definitely looking for a softer ride closer to stock. The roads where i live are terrible. I am going to look into the GR2 series more i think.

I put KYB mono max shocks on my 95 Yukon, they are very plush, rides like a car. Any good monotube shock will be better than cheap twin tube shocks.

Thanks for all the suggestions. The shocks i pulled out were prob heavy duty ones for a 3/4 ton. They were much larger in diameter than what I replaced em with. I did decide to go with the KYB GR-2s. Night and day difference. These are smooth, closer to the stock ride i am after, and not bone jarring. I am still waiting on my lower extenders for the rears to give em a little more travel, and that should make it even that much better. Time will tell if these hold up over the long run. About $100 for 4 shipped from the Rock, and a $25 rebate. I cant complain.
