Hey guys,

Has anybody heard of these guys: Wabbit's Wood Works? I am assuming it was another conversion company. I saw this 97 Chevy K1500 ECSB with 358,*** miles (wow!) at the junkyard today and got some of the wood trim out of it. It had 40/20/40 FLEXSTEEL leather seats, dried and ruined of course. Here are some pictures of the wood trim:

I didn't get any pictures of the interior because it looked like garbage, but it did have the medium gray interior, not the neutral.

Would these wood trim pieces be considered real wood? It is non-flexible unlike the stick-on stuff, and it is the screw on type. If it is real, I will consider putting it in my truck, since I like wood trim. How would I also go about polishing these up a bit? They are a little dull from no maintenance from the PO. Would rubbing compound be OK on these?

Thanks!

That looks like real wood which is really cool! The best way IMO to bring back the shine is to lightly sand it with 600 grit to roughen the surface and apply another coat or two of Polyurethane.

Thank you for your reply. This wood trim looks like it has a clear coat on it, is that the polyurethane? Does this wood trim have a semi-gloss look or a gloss look? I am thinking gloss.

Yeah I am debating also. I think I'm gonna do it, problem is, I have a Esky cluster, so the wood gauge overlay will not work. :bawl: But I thought I'd take them anyway. Forgot to grab the ash-tray/power outlet wood surround and the extended cab passenger side trim, gonna go back and get them sometime.

Why won’t the cluster overlay work?

yea, more than likely its polyurethane thats on it now. Thats the most common and most durable coating. It would be full gloss not semi-gloss.

The needle on the temp is too long, the battery needle can't do its full "bounce" so it wouldn't work either. The battery gauge just wouldn't move unless I removed the trim. I would have to use the 100mph needles for the four small gauges, or just a 100mph cluster. I might try some other ways to make it work as I really want it to work. I have a picture that I can post tomorrow. :) I am kind of scared to remove the needles, if end up having to on this cluster, as I didn't have good luck last time on a 100mph cluster that I was replacing the four needles on (which is one of many reasons why I got the Esky cluster).

Ok, I thought it was full gloss. So it is polyurethane, cool, thanks for your help! I will purchase some 600 grit sand paper and some full gloss polyurethane. :)

I'm sure you could swap the needles to something smaller if you really wanted to make it work. Aren't the Pontiac Aztek needles a common swap for these clusters? I think those are slightly shorter but I could be mistaken.

The wood trim install was a success! Looks good, the polyurethane re-coat helped bring it back to life. I still need to get the ash tray trim and rear extended cab door trim, more has yet to come...
