Is there a way to tell if the spider injector has been upgraded without having to remove the upper intake? Is there something to look for on the module behind the throttle body or some such clue? 99 K1500 classic.

Thanks,

Brad

If you open up the throttle blade, sometimes you can see the fuel lines inside. If they are smaller than a pencil then it is still the poppets. If they are about half an inch or so then they are the upgraded injectors.

The newer ones have a gray cover and wire over the lines.

The originals are a thinner black as skylark said. They have long black clips at the end.

Thanks for the info. I ended up opening the throttle and looking through the throttle body. I could see a couple of the lines. They are pretty small, less than a quarter inch. Must be the original. I've just read a lot of bad about them and thought I'd upgrade before I have a problem.

Considering your truck is 19 years old, they probably are a problem already and you just don't know it. You'll love the mpfi conversion. Just did mine a couple weeks ago, runs better than it ever has

I’d agree with the above. I did them on my Z71 because I already had it apart for the lower intake gaskets. It’s so much smoother and responsive. My Tahoe is a slug when compared to it, it’s a noticeable difference...or just indicative of how marginal the stock injectors are after twenty years of use.

I agree with the other two also. I did mine about a year ago for the same reason you are thinking...old and before it's a problem.

Mine idles smoother for sure, didn't notice any performance increase though.

Sounds encouraging. Should I spend the extra effort to do the lower intake gasket while I'm at it?
