The Denso fuel pump just arrived. It's made in China and looks a little generic, but hopefully the quality is there since it's Denso. It came with the updated connector that I need to splice in. I still have the old 4-sqaure connector, and the new one is 4-flat. It came with butt connectors, which don't strike me as being a good idea. I could find some of the ones that need to be heated and have goop that seals them, or maybe I could solder them.

The pumped shipped from a Denso Wharehouse in California, so Advance Auto didn't really ship slow.... Denso did. It's a drop ship arrangement, like what Rockauto does.

I ordered my bolts from McMaster-Carr. Ordering them is fast, but they don't tell you tax and shipping before hand, which is a little scary. I've always heard good things about them so hopefully shipping isn't much. It's supposed to arrive tomorrow.

If you have the correct tools you could just take the new connector apart and install new pins on your current wiring and put them in the plug that way you don't have any splices anywhere that could cause problems later. And it would look as close to factory as you could get.

So after a month, I'm driving my truck again. It's still not totally together, as I have yet to tighten the bed bolts, reattach the bumper, receiver, and tank filler. Right now, it's raining.

I'm noticing that the truck starts A LOT better with the new Denso pump. I've thought for a long time that my injectors leak, but I'm thinking now, that they aren't as big of a problem as I thought... I think much of the problem must have been the check valve in the pump, which I guess is that toilet bowel float looking device in the old pump?

The Denso pump is quiet just like they advertise.

Sorry you, (and many others,) have had to go thru such a hassle,, why GM didn't install a simple access plate is beyond me.
Even for an exposed pickup bed, the factory could have designed something that would work.
I know people who have a Tahoe or Suburban who have removed the carpeting and sawed a hole in the body, and then made a cover panel, rather than drop the tank.
I'm never dropping the tank again! I can have the pump changed and be back on the road in under 30 minutes. I carry a spare pump in my parts box along with a coil, ICM, and crank sensor.
