Hi I have 1998 5.7L and the abs light is constantly on, what can I check to turn it off, or is there a way to get a error code off of it or anything? I'm a brand new GMT400 owner and am loving and would like to keep my truck in tip-top shape? Any suggestions at all would be helpful.

check the fluid level, if that is good you need to see if the ABS is ACTUALLY working. find a gravel road and lock the breaks down at about 30mph. if something is awry then they won't work.... the breaks will lock up. it could be something as simple as low fluid, a wheel speed sensor, a fluid sensor, or air in the brakelines. have any work done recently on the brakes? new pads or anything?

if there were brakes put on and the person who put them on pushed the fluid back to fast he could have busted the sensor which will cause the light to be on

Check to make sure your wheel sensors are plugged in also and check the fuse under the hood

All of the things mentioned, wheel speed sensors crudded up will do it, Fluid level, air in lines. Do you have a code reader to clear codes ? There are many reasons the light could be on. How is your brakes ? Spongy, low, As you have more than likely read these trucks brakes are not known for stop on a dime and giving nine cents change good. I would say if you have checked all the things mentioned, clear the code and see if it comes back. ABS pumps on these trucks are not known for problems. If they need bleeding the abs pump should be cycled with a Tech II or similar scanner to bleed air from abs pump and then wheel bleeding. Good luck in your venture.

On the front left hub.....look for the wires leading to it.

Thanks!! I have the same problem, ABS light is on constantly, so I recently did the brakes, and over the weekend put a new speed sensor on the front drivers side and it fixed it for about 30 miles and now its back on..... Any other ideas?

The tone ring inside could be damaged and not letting the sensor read it correctly. On my 95 it was always on replaced the wheel bearing and it went away. In my case the bearing was bad but fixed the abs light as well.
