Yeah but he's going carb'd with it so I'd imagine getting the TH400 to play nice with the engine would be a ton easier than trying to get a 4L80E to. I think TH400's go for much cheaper than 4L80E's as well.
That's why I'm leaning towards it. Regardless I know I need a new crossmember for either transmission.

My vote would be for the 4L80E as well, but I admit a TH400 would be much easier.

All I had to do was slide my crossmember back to the second set of holes for the 80E.
Well thank you. I was looking at how to do a th400 swap as I'm pretty sure my 700r4 just took a crap on me tonight driving around and gave it full throttle for a moment. Second trans my truck has killed. TV cable was set right on my Holley carb with the geometry bracket and tight like a guitar string. So for now I'm going to drive it as it seems okish in 3rd gear ( was only able to give it gas and go fast as speedo isn't hooked up but felt like at least 45 probably 50 or more ) but in OD it seems like, yet again, the 3rd and 3th clutch packs went out. So for now I'm just going to swap in a th400 for ease. OD isn't a concern since it's going to be a primarily off road truck.

Yea planning as of right now a th400. Already running a carbed 350 with a 700r4 from a 91 suburban.

Personal experience ? I'm just wondering have heard some mixed things

Speaking from personal exp. Had one fail less than a week after install(done by a shop for warranty). After finally getting a hold of someone there, took it to a shop that they wanted it at. Shop told them how it was wrong and they told me i took it to a bad shop and they dont know what they are doing. long story short, Communication turned to email only because they would say something then say they never said it. After a month and a half i was mostly reimbursed for the fix need to the trans. Only to have it completely roast a year later. Now its a $3000 empty shell i use for mock ups. This was installed in a 82 Camaro with a stock 350. Trans was rated for 600hp.

That's terrible man, well I guess that's going to put me off of rebuilding a trans unless I need to
