Finally got my truck all good to go and went for a drive in it. Was taking a left turn and hit the gas a bit since a car was speeding faster than I thought and then all of a sudden I lost 3rd gear. Now I just had the trans rebuilt, and get said that he installed high energy 3 and 4 clutch packs. Now my issue you is I have carb swapped my 350 in my 1991 k1500. There should be no TC lockup as the computer isn't hooked up to anything. All the wires were cut before I bought the truck. Now I was foolish enough to put it in normal drive ( square D not D/3 ) could that have caused it ? The trans pan was not that hot after driving, trans fluid smells a bit burnt and it shifts hard from 1st to 2nd and seems like it doesn't want to ( driving in 2nd gear ). Anyone have any ideas ?

1 of 2 things: garbage rebuild or, more likely, the TV cable wasn't set properly.

Would it just stop working after a moderately hard acceleration ? I never set the TV cable, just got a stud for the 700r4 mounting hole on my holley carb. Could be a bad rebuild but it's a toss up.

If I were a trans shop I'd put a stink eye on that setup. It really needs to be set at the same distance from center as stock and then adjusted properly. If you never adjusted the TV cable yes, your trans would die very quickly. Without enough fluid pressure you could slip the clutches in the blink of an eye. Not saying definitively that that's what happened here, but that TV cable's importance cannot be understated. It is not a kickdown cable.

So you thinking since I already lost 3 and 4 that without adjusted my tv cable properly my trans may now be no good ? Or is there still some hope ?

I got tired of transmission shops with questionable talent, so I bought ATSG manuals for the 4L60E trans and did my own. Not nearly as hard as they want you to think it is. Plus I'm a lot more confident in my work than somebody else that I don't know.

That's a good point. I've been looking at some shop manuals for our trans but just haven't gone through with tearing it down. Just scared of breaking something even worse haha
