So I’ve been in the process since November of fixing my father in laws truck. (Since then he’s been through hell, and currently facing life threatening liver issues. If I don’t get a hitch in my step it very well may end up a tribute truck:(but that’s not the point of this story.) He had bought her brand new in 1989 (1990 model though) and the years haven’t been the easiest on the old girl. It was SUPPOSED to be a motor, new cab corners and rocker panels and squirt a fresh coat of victory red paint. But we all know how that turns out when you start pulling apart a 30 year old northern vehicle. Snowballed. If it wasn’t rusted out it was broken. If it wasn’t broken it was brittle. But anyway I came up with a southern box and some other bits and then I got after it. After a few weeks of slow going I had to get something really positive done, and I did. As of Friday night all I had was a bare frame in my garage. A weekend of kicking ass and I fired it up!

From start to (tonight’s) finish:
(And a video at the end)

Looks great man, I love hearing stories about trucks that have been in the family since new. My dad bought my '98 brand new back in the day.

I'll keep your dad in my thoughts. I lost mine to leukemia 8 years ago and his truck is my tribute to him.

Looks and sounds good. So good of you to dig in and do the truck for him. If he is on a donor list don't give up a year ago in March my brother got his liver trans and is a new man loving life.

Thanks guys. Been a hell of a battle on both fronts. If all goes well hopefully the truck will be headed to the body shop for paint within a month. Really want to get the truck finished by the end of the summer.

Stand up Son in law. Great job on the rebuild so far and all the best for your father in law. You are making me think about what I could do for mine in the future.

Damn man bumps in the road left and right. Never fails as soon as progress starts to be made speed bump. Barricades even.
Rearend is cooked. At least beyond my skills of getting it back together quickly. Good news is that my buddy hooked me up with an awesome deal on a reman rear diff. I don’t have to dick with it and we get a posi upgrade.

Moving along again. Rear end is in, have to finish the rear brake lines and bleed them. Started to test fit the new fenders and rad support.

Progress has been slow. Cold and snowy weather has hampered things considerably. But here and there I get a chance to work on it. Got the interior cleaned out, still have to pull the carpet. Rusty rockers have been cut out and almost ready to start welding the new ones in.
