I just bought an off road bumper for my hoe and I am receiving it in raw metal. I'm wanting to bed line it over getting it powder coated because I want the tough textured look that you get from a bed liner. I've used Herculiner on previous trucks and really like the texture of it, but it faded pretty quick and I want it to stay dark black for more than a month! Anyone know a good diy bed liner that won't fade and still has a good texture???

I bought an Iron Cross rear bumper few years back and the powdercoating flaked off in 1 year!!

Last month, I took both bumpers off my truck and had them sandblasted at a local shop. I also had them prime them with a urethane primer and then coat the backsides of them with a chassis paint. I then used Upol Raptor liner on the outsides of them and it looks perfect. Per Upol, the ONLY proper way to use their product is to apply it within 5 days of a urethane primer being applied to bare metal.

Do NOT use herculiner. It looked good for a few weeks then started to fade and look grey and after 6 months it wore down to the point that I could see the primer color beneath it.

Intetesting... I've used herculiner on my old jeep interior and a few buddies jeeps as well. Never faded in any of them, never wore off(but was just mainly people in and out and offroad equipment and not worked like a p/u bed), was in there for the 5 years I had my jeep.

With ANY diy liner kit, prep is the most important thing. And dry times between coats are important as well.

I used it in other things before and since then also for various projects with less wear potential but on that front bumper it was terrible. Something about the front bumper getting blasted with rain/snow/salt/gravel/etc on a regular basis at high speed didn't fair well for that coating.

Thanks, my bumper finally came in so I think I'll give raptorliner a try. If worst comes to worst it'll look like herculiner which I don't have a problem with so I guess I've got nothing to lose haha!
