Ignition Control Module would be the first suspect on my list. Pull it and have it tested at your local auto part store...

Edit: Now that I'm a little more awake...

Check for spark/no spark while the issue is present. It may be that the ICM is getting hot and failing.

I would check battery cables and grounds. The intermittent nature of the problem suggests that something is loose.

I bought the ICM and a tube of thermal paste because I’m going to put some on the dizzy as well I also bought a new rotor I’m going to put it on now that the cap is off I just might change out the coil I have a new one.

I have a MSD 6AL Box if it keeps turning off I’m going to disconnect it and go back to stock.

Guys my coil wire is toast and now that I remember when I was replacing my MSD wires the coil wire was messed up so I used the old one so tomorrow I’m going to a local speed shop and have them make me one up they have a big spool of MSD wire.

So what happened is I bought my MSD plug wires off of eBay I got a good deal well now I know why the seller had taken out the new coil wire and replaced it with a used one that was bad so that’s why I used my old MSD coil wire.

Now I’m wondering if I should return my new ICM or just keep it for if mine ever goes out oh and I did replace my coil it had corrosion on where the wire plugs in and yes I know I could have cleaned it but I don’t like to short cut things on my truck.

Had the Speed Shop make me a MSD 8.5 coil wire today she’s running good so far.

ANYTHING "can" fail, but the various ignition modules for GM HEI are about as reliable as a stone. Cheap Chinese counterfeits, and Chinese "hot-rod" modules may be an exception.

Genuine GM/Delco/Delphi modules, along with top-line aftermarket modules (Standard, Blue Streak, Echlin, etc.) are extremely reliable.

While you're in there, look at the carbon button that touches the center of the rotor. They're a high-failure item, and they're a reason for coil wire failure as well as rotor failure.

Ok guys I’m back my truck shut down again it was super hot here in Texas so I was waiting for the wife in my truck listening to music while she went inside a store buying food when my truck shut off again but this time it didn’t turn back on so I went inside to tell her so I called my son to come and pick us up so when he arrived to take us home I tried my truck and it started so I took off towards my house and half way home again it shut off and no start just cranked over so we left my truck at some other store and went back at night so it turned on and made it home so my son changed out the ICM put plenty of the heat compound and some that I had bought on the dizzy where it sits and she’s starting good now and staying on so to confirm that the IC
M was bad o’Reillys auto parts checked it on their machine and it failed the test.
